Stainless, Coated Steel or Plastic: What Survives a Bathroom

Wall Mounted Broom & Mop Holder

A bathroom is a humid, soapy, occasionally very hot room. Material choice decides whether a fitting lasts a decade or a season.

Stainless steel

The safe default. Look for the grade where it is published — 304 handles domestic bathrooms comfortably.

Coated steel

Cheaper and fine until the coating is chipped. Once moisture reaches the steel underneath, rust spreads from that point outward.

Plastic

Immune to rust and genuinely sensible for light items, but it becomes brittle with prolonged heat and UV. In a windowless bathroom it lasts well.
